Two of the league’s best rookies – Grizzlies center Zach Edey and Lakers guard Dalton Knecht – will face each other tonight.

They both did a good job for their teams in a few matches. Edey leads all rookies in various statisticsand Knecht is performing well on his own in a high-pressure, superstar-filled roster.

Through eight games, Edey averaged a rookie-high 11.1 points per game while grabbing 6.5 rebounds and nearly a block. Knecht scored 7.3 points off the bench for Los Angeles, hitting 38% of his three-point attempts and adding 1.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game.

Of course, the two won’t spend much time together playing opposite positions. But both quickly became vital to their respective teams’ efforts to win on the night. Perhaps not coincidentally, they were the two oldest players taken in the lottery in the 2024 draft.

Edey will have his hands full with Lakers superstar Anthony Davis, whose current performance appears to be close to MVP level. This will undoubtedly be a test for the 7-foot-11 forward, as Davis has hyper-mobility within his frame, can score on the beaucoup, and cover the basket.

Knecht will look to rebound after a few quiet performances: just 10 points on 7 shooting in his last two games. Lastly, he lost just nine minutes against the Pistons, failing to stay on the floor in JJ Reddick’s rotation despite shooting 100%.

The Lakers and Grizzlies will face off tonight at 7pm CT.
