CAMARILLO, Calif. — Thousands of residents have been forced to flee a fast-moving wildfire in Ventura County, called the Mountain Fire, that has already damaged scores of homes. AIR7’s Chris Cristi estimated 40-50 homes were burned from what he could see.

The out-of-control wildfire broke out around 9:30 a.m. near the 7900 block of Balcom Canyon Road and Bradley Road. The fire department described the incident as a two-alarm fire that burned 250 acres, but it quickly exploded and is currently unextinguished. More than 10,000 acres.

The fire has crossed Highway 118 and is now threatening the Camarillo Heights area.

Evacuation orders:

  • Zone 1 – North of Somis: Areas north of East Los Angeles Boulevard/Hwy 118, west of Balcom Canyon Road, and east of La Vista Boulevard
  • Zone 2 – Saticoy Country Club: East of Los Angeles Ave/Hwy 118 and south of the Santa Clara River and north of Beardsley Road
  • Zone 3 – Areas south of Hwy 118, west of N. Lewis Road, north of North Loop Drive and Mission Drive, and east of Fairway Drive
  • Zone 4 – West Camarillo (Las Posas/Spanish Hills areas): north of Las Posas Road, south and east of Central Avenue and Beardsley Road, and west of Anacapa Drive
  • District 6 – Area extending south of the Santa Clara River, east of Los Angeles Boulevard, north of Saticoy County Club, and west of Briggs Road
  • Zone 7 – Area north of Hwy 101, south and east of Beardsley Boulevard, and south of Central Boulevard

Evacuation warnings:

  • Zone 8 – An area extending south of South Mountain Road, east of Briggs Road, and west of 12th Street and Bixby Road
  • Ventura: Eastern edge of the City of Ventura, from Petit Road east to the City Limits.

  • Lewis Trail Going North in Las Posas
  • Eastbound Highway 118 at Wells Road
  • Westbound Highway 118 at Tierra Rejada Road

Mountain Fire destroys Camarillo neighborhood in Ventura County

Homes near Old Coach Drive, Goldenspur Drive and Garrido Drive were caught in the firestorm.

Air7 helicopter reporter Chris Cristi described the landscape left behind as a war zone.

AIR7 broadcast shows Camarillo neighborhoods devastated by Mountain Fire

AIR7’s aerial images show an estimated 40-50 homes in Camarillo damaged or destroyed by the Mountain Fire.

Aerial images from AIR7 show a striking picture of destruction in Camarillo, with what appears to be 40 or more homes destroyed by flames.

The Mountain Fire, which spread over more than 10,000 acres as of Wednesday afternoon, destroyed entire neighborhoods, many of which contained multimillion-dollar luxury homes, under the influence of strong winds.

Just before 2:45 p.m., Cal Fire updated the Mountain Fire area to 10,458 acres.

Audio of first responders’ call released: ‘We must come forward’

ABC7 obtained audio of a call for help from firefighters during a fire near Moorpark on Wednesday.

“We need to make all the necessary notifications… but all the existing engines and support companies in the Camarillo Heights area… we need to get ahead of this.”

“The fire has crossed 118…it’s currently moving south of 118…it has a very high potential to impact the Camarillo Heights area,” a firefighter can be heard saying.
