Linn County mother testifies after gun was fired into vehicle at elementary school

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) received a call from Centennial Grade School in Scio around 7:40 Monday morning reporting that a firearm had been discharged into a vehicle on the delivery line.

“Fortunately, no injuries were reported,” LCSO said. he said.

Responding deputies learned that Carly Herman, 31, of Scio, was dropping her children off at school when the shotgun in Herman’s backseat accidentally discharged a round as the children exited the vehicle, the report said.

“The barrel of the gun was pointed at the floor of the vehicle and it is believed that the bullet was captured by the drivetrain and chassis,” LCSO said.

Deputies seized two firearms and Herman was given a ticket in lieu of custody for Possession of a Firearm on School Property and Reckless Endangerment.
