She said at first Tyler was vague about the situation, merely saying he was a sperm donor for a lesbian couple.

“He was afraid to tell me because he didn’t want to lose me,” Ashley said. “And I said, ‘This is a robbery.’ ‘You robbed me of my choice.’ Because in capsules, all factors are involved. You know? And I was so caught off guard.”

Ashley said the two talked for five hours and she was so in shock she barely asked any questions. He initially said his priority was to find out whether Tyler was a liar at heart.

“I asked him this: ‘If I were sitting with your ex right now, or the people you were dating, or the people you were dating, what would they say about you?’” he explained. “Because for two reasons: one, I want to see if I can spot remnants of this behavior and start looking for it.” ; not that I’m looking for it, just to start paying attention. Second, I want to see how you respond because it’s a red flag for men to blame a woman for everything.”

“So for me, it was refreshing to hear him say, ‘Yeah, they’ll probably say I’m not the best,’” he added. “And he was vocal about it. Like, ‘I wasn’t good at dating at all.’ You know? “To me, that wasn’t a red flag.”

Ashley then examined Tyler’s relationship with the children, one of whom he provided sperm to when his friend got married, and the twins who were born after his friend’s wife broke up. Ashley explained that Tyler grew up without a father, so when the friend he met in the military became a single mother, he decided to step in as the other parent instead of the “uncle” figure he had previously played.

“They knew him as their biological father,” Ashley said. “And it’s so taboo and so weird to think about, but I don’t think there’s any rule book for what adoption, sperm donor or egg donation should be like. I think it was a mistake on his part to blur those lines so much because of the kids. Not just women, but also children. And I know that she mainly wants the boy to be a part of her.

Ashley said that when she learned how Tyler fell into the father role, it was easier for her to understand why he kept it a secret in the stalls. Describing it as a “momentary interruption” in their relationship, she said his confession did not cause her to lose his trust, but simply “broke” it at the time.

“What he did for his friend was a noble thing,” he said. “It was a great thing. And it was another noble thing for him to join this family when his partner left. But should he do this? Maybe you could argue that it isn’t. “The reason he did it was because he wanted to do the right thing, and it pretty much blew up in his face.”

A few years before moving on love is blind, Ashley shared that Tyler and the kids talked about her mother’s role in their lives going forward. According to Ashley, whenever the mom was in a new relationship, she allegedly wanted Tyler to be less involved, so he decided it wasn’t his job to parent the kids.

“He started to slow down and get (less) collected and basically said something along the lines of, ‘You know, I have no connection to these kids,’” Ashley explained. “And he was hurt because he was like, ‘Well, why? Why don’t you? Because they are still like your children. Why don’t you have a connection?’ He said, ‘You know, this is your family and this isn’t what I originally signed up for.’ I know I stepped in to try to help. “I know I said I’d be there for the twins.”

“Biologically, these are still his children, so he feels a certain way, but he’s like, ‘I can’t do this,'” she continued. “He’s disappointed, and I can understand why he’s disappointed. But he says, ‘I don’t want to have any connection with you or them because if I talk to you, even though you’ve been my friend for a long time, there’s no way I can’t help but talk to your guys. And it’s better if I distance myself. I think it will happen.”

“Those kids, that family did not sign up for this,” he said. “I played a very shaky role with a friend. There’s no rule book for it… but I want people to know Ashley knows all this.”

“I don’t owe anyone an explanation other than my wife,” he added.
