DULUTH — Grandma’s Marathon is sold out for 2025.

The full marathon reached its capacity of 9,000 runners in record time, setting the fastest sell-out record in the event’s 49-year history. This was in 2016 when the last spot was up for grabs on New Year’s Eve. Tickets for the 2024 Granny Marathon sold out on January 5.

“It’s a humbling thing,” said Zach Schneider, director of marketing and public relations for Grandma’s Marathon. “This speaks volumes about the work, care and passion our entire community puts into our race weekend.”

Registration for the 2025 Granny Marathon races, scheduled for June 20-21, opened on October 1, when the 8,000 entries for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon sold out in less than 18 hours. William A. Irvin reached capacity of 2,500 people in less than 36 hours. This was also a record.

All entries for the Great Grandma’s Challenge (500 full and 700 half) are also sold out.

“The record is largely based on past performance,” Schneider said. “This community has built something that people want to be a part of and expect to be a positive experience, and we should all take some pride in that.

“The focus is now shifting dramatically and the hard work begins as we hope to absolutely meet and exceed these expectations in June.”

Grandma’s Marathon is partnering with 36 different organizations in 2025 to raise funds for various causes. Partners are eligible to participate in a full marathon, half marathon and 5K.

The Grandma Marathon managed to raise over $400,000 for 23 different organizations in 2024, with a total of 17,500 racers participating to complete the 2024 Irvin 5K, Bjorklund Half Marathon, and Grandma Marathon. The 7,525 finishers for the Granny Marathon in 2024 were the highest since 2016, when there were 7,518.
