Silver Spring man charged with murder of 19-year-old roommate

GAITHERSBURG, MD. — Montgomery County Police arrested Abraham Luna Perez, 26, of Silver Spring, in connection with the Oct. 22 murder of his roommate, 19-year-old Diego Edilberto Borja-Cardona. Luna Perez is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail.

According to police, officers responded to a report in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road on Oct. 22 around 2:38 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Borja-Cardona’s body in bushes behind a bus stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore confirmed Borja-Cardona’s death as a homicide, but police have not yet released the exact cause of death.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division quickly zeroed in on Luna Perez as the suspect and identified her as Borja-Cardona’s roommate. Investigators did not provide information on a possible motive for the murder.

On November 1, Luna Perez was taken into custody by Montgomery County Police investigators assigned to the U.S. Marshals Capital Region Task Force. He was later transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was formally charged with first-degree murder.

The investigation continues as detectives continue to collect evidence regarding the incident. No further details have been released by authorities at this time.
