2-Year-Old Child Found ‘Naked’ in ‘Caged Area’ Full of Feces: Police

Five people were arrested after a 2-year-old boy was found “naked” in a “caged area” in Kentucky.

On Monday, November 4, Detective Dave Roberts and the Carrollton Police Department responded to reports that a child was possibly being held in a confined space at a property on 7th Street, after receiving “an advance tip from the community.” Facebook shipment confirmed.

“Upon arrival, Detective Roberts and Sergeant Taylor found a boy under the age of 3, naked and locked behind a wooden and metal enclosure secured with a padlock,” police said in the post.

Brenda Chilton, 71, of Carrollton; William Mahoney, 72, of Carrollton; Codey Johnson, 29, of Carrollton; Tammy Simmons, 52, of Carrollton; and Shelby Turocy, 28, of Ghent, KY. Police confirmed in a Facebook message that they had all been arrested and are facing charges of criminal harassment and wanton endangerment.

Turocy also faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, the post said.

“Detective Roberts, Sergeant Taylor, Chief Willhoite, Deputy Chief Dews, and Sergeant Dews secured the scene and executed a search warrant on the property,” police confirmed in a Facebook post. They added: “Following a preliminary investigation, the two children were removed from the home by the Health and Family Services Cabinet.”

The criminal complaint stated that the young boy was “kept in a room filled with urine and feces.” Sacramento Bee And News and ObserverReferring to the publishing company McClatchy News.

Based on local output WDRBDetective Roberts said of the scene: “There was a completely naked child in the back.”

“There was feces and then you’re in that confined space,” the officer added.

The publication also said the detective alerted police after a delivery driver “saw a small child locked in what appeared to be a cage,” adding that there were also eight to 10 dogs at the facility that were in “poor health.”

Police have not confirmed that the boy is related to any of the five arrested people who are currently being held in the Carroll County Detention Center.

“If you see something, say something,” Roberts said, according to WDRB. “This case is a reminder of the vital role that bystanders can play in ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable children.”

An investigation is ongoing.

The Carrollton Police Department did not immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
