While Owen predicts Man Utd will start in the first 11, he announced the star who will not play under Amorim’s management.

Michael Owen has predicted Ruben Amorim will start in the regular Man Utd XI when he starts training at Old Trafford later this month.

Red Devils moved quickly to appoint Amorim on Friday As Erik ten Hag’s successor following his dismissal the previous Monday.

Amorim’s appointment has already created excitement Manchester Utd Fans hoping they can finally get back into contention for the Premier League title for the first time since 2013.

Man Utd currently sit 13th in the Premier League with just three wins from ten games, while only Crystal Palace and Southampton have scored fewer goals than the Red Devils.

And Owen predicts Amorim will stick to the 3-4-3 formation that served him well at Sporting Lisbon and move Man Utd away from the back four.

Owen expects Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro to feature in the back three once Matthijs, who has yet to play a competitive game with the Premier League club, recovers from injury.

Owen says he predicts Amorim’s team at Man Utd Premier League Productions: “I think this is an important position for Ruben Amorim.

“Amorim is famous for allowing the centre-back to get into midfield a little bit, so the player has to dominate the ball.

“De Ligt and Martinez are both aggressive defenders, they like to play against the forwards, so the central player needs to be good on the ball and Yoro fits that.

“I think if everyone is fit, that’s his back three of choice.”

Some favorites under Ten Hag could be left out with Owen claiming Man Utd’s new boss is likely to go with Manuel Ugarte instead of Casemiro.

“We can only select 11 players and we debated between Ugarte and Casemiro, it was a bit of a coin toss between the two.

“But we thought he would go with Ugarte because he has played under him before, which could turn the tables in Ugarte’s favour.”

Former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey added: “They won the league together at Sporting. “Ugarte clearly understands the manager and will know what he expects from him in that position and the formation he likes to play in.

“Casemiro has had a great career and remains a quality player. I’m sure there will be more to come from him, but I think Ugarte has gone against him given his previous experience with him.”

Owen reckons Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford will be deployed as the two number 10s behind the lone striker in Amorim’s squad.

The former Man Utd striker continued: “It’s important to note that these two players almost play inside in most formations.

“They’re not necessarily wide players, so they come in and play more like a number 10 and that works in Bruno’s favour.

“With these players coming in, you can ask can Rashford play inside? I think he can. I think he has good vision.

“He won’t play any other way unless he plays up front instead of Hojlund. “I think Rashford will start, but he will be in a more interior position.”

Ramsey also expressed his views on Rashford and said: “Rashford has a very high quality team. Hopefully it can get a new life under the new manager and be a little more consistent, reaching past levels.

“He’s an incredible player in his time. I think he can fit into small pockets and holes in this system.”

Andre Onana, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund make up the rest of Owen’s predicted squad for when Amorim has a fully-fledged Man Utd squad.
