FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Polls are closed in California. The important races we are watching are shaped as follows.

Where to vote?

Find your nearest ballot box and voting center by entering your address in the search bar below.

Votes sent by mail must be postmarked by November 5 and reach the district population office by November 12 to be counted.

If you are in line at the polling station by 8pm, stay in line. Since you are in line before the voting center closes, you can cast your vote after the polls close.

Presidential Election

From President Joe Biden’s unprecedented decision to step aside as the Democratic nominee to two assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump, the candidates’ path to Election Day has dominated headlines this year.

Six people are running for the US presidency this election year: Vice President Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Green Party Jill Stein, Libertarian Chase Oliver, Peace and Freedom Party Claudia de la Cruz.

US Senate – California

Democratic U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff is expected to beat Republican Steve Garvey in the race for the California U.S. Senate seat previously held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, ABC News projects.

Schiff and Garvey are running in two separate elections: one for the entire six-year term, the other for the remaining weeks of Feinstein’s unexpired term.

California’s 13th Congressional District

With just nine days until the polls close, voters will decide a razor-thin race for Congress in the North Valley.

Republican incumbent John Duarte and Democrat Adam Gray are facing off for a second time.

Two years ago, Gray lost to Duarte by just 564 votes.

Democrats are looking to regain control of the House of Representatives, and the 13th congressional seat could be one of four needed.

The 13th district, redrawn after the 2020 census, now includes parts of Fresno, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.

California’s 22nd Congressional District

With less than two weeks until the end of the vote, a tight political battle continues in the South Valley.

A tight political struggle continues in the South Valley. Republican David Valadao and Democrat Rudy Salas are facing off for a second time for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Valadao is a Hanford native and served five terms in Congress, focusing on water, the Farm Bill and public safety issues. He says he wants to address the economy and border issues in the new term.

Salas hails from Bakersfield, where he served on the City Council and then the State Assembly for 10 years.

He wants to move this business to Washington.

The race is a rematch from 2022, when Valadao and Salas were separated by just 3,000 votes.

The matchup has national significance as House Republicans fight to retain their narrow majority.

Recommendation 32: Increase the minimum wage

Californians will put their paychecks into their own hands when they vote on Proposition 32 at the ballot box in November.

Californians are taking their paychecks into their own hands at the ballot box as they vote for Proposition 32 on Election Day.

It would raise the minimum wage from $16 to $18 per hour. Proposition 32 would not apply to independent contractors or self-employed workers. In some cities, the minimum wage is already high so this will not affect them.

Recommendation 33: Rent Control

In November, California voters will decide whether to give local governments the authority to expand rent control if they wish. This is the explanation for Proposition 33.

Rent control is a term familiar to Californians, but for nearly three decades a state law has placed limits on rent control regulations.

Voters will decide whether to give local governments the authority to expand rent control if they choose. Not all cities in California have rent control, so Proposition 33 aims to address that.

Cities can restrict how much a landlord can charge each year, but they can’t set rent control for single-family homes, housing built after 1995, and they can’t tell landlords how much they can charge a new tenant.

Recommendation 36: Increased penalties for theft and drug trafficking

Proposition 36, which is on California’s November ballot, would roll back Proposition 47, which made some drug and theft crimes misdemeanors.

California’s Proposition 36, which would increase penalties for certain crimes, was expected to pass on the ballot Tuesday.

With more than 36% of the votes counted, the measure was ahead by a 70-30 margin, according to the California Secretary of State’s office.
