The person who attacked the police for attempted murder is wanted

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man wanted for attempted first-degree murder faces assault charges after he punched at least two officers who tried to arrest him, police said.

MPD said Fugitive Task Force members went to pick up 33-year-old Joshua Avery on an outstanding warrant when they attacked a home in the 2300 block of Lowell Avenue Tuesday morning.

According to police, an officer was preparing to force open the front door when Avery came to the door. Officers said he gave loud verbal commands to Avery to get out with his hand up, and Avery opened the door and hit him twice in the head.

Another fugitive team member said he tried to detain Avery and punched Avery in the face. The officer said he had to beat Avery to take him into custody.

Avery was also wanted for domestic assault and illegal weapons possession, but police did not elaborate on the charges. He is currently being held without bail.
