College Student Dallas Roberts Found Dead in Colorado National Park

Lost college student Dallas Roberts in Colorado’s Gunnison National Park has been found. found dead.

“This is an absolute tragedy,” Montrose County Sheriff Gene Lillard said McClatchy News in a phone interview published Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office first reported Roberts missing from an incident. Facebook The post was shared on October 30. The 19-year-old was last seen on Oct. 28 “in Black Canyon in the Gunnison National Park area,” according to the department.

According to a statement made by the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office on November 2, the search for Roberts ended after his body was found in the national park. KKCO.

KKCO added that park rangers found his vehicle “crashed 50 feet off the road and down a hill” in the park on Oct. 28, but his body was not found. Roberts’ vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed before leaving the roadway.

“His family is also very concerned. They’re trying to search on their own, too. They’ve been very cooperative in trying to find Mr. Roberts,” Lillard said before Roberts’ remains were found. Montrose Daily Press reported.

“We are seriously concerned about the extremely cold weather,” Lillard added.

Grand Junction Daily Duty had previously reported that park rangers were unable to respond immediately after Roberts’ accident because they were on Gunnison’s North Rim at the time.

Lillard said a cadaver dog was brought in by the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the search, McClatchy News reported. Days later, National Park Service officials found a sweater, later determined by Roberts’ family to be his, about a half-mile from the wreckage.

Lillard said drone footage helped emergency rescue teams find the body lying in bushes about 200 feet below a bench in the middle of the granite cliff.

Roberts was a student at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction and previously lived in Montrose, where he still has family. Daily Duty.

Roberts’ official cause of death has not yet been determined.

The Black Canyon region of Gunnison National Park covers approximately 31,000 acres and is known for its exceptionally rugged, remote terrain as well as being home to the Gunnison River.
