Peoria man faces murder charge in death of 2-year-old stepchild

PEORIA, Arizona (AZAfamily) — A man faces multiple charges, including murder, for alleged abuse that led to the death of his teenage stepchild in Peoria last month.

Peoria Police arrested 2-year-old Hein Lwin in connection with the 2-year-old’s death.

On Oct. 24, Peoria Police were called to a welfare check near 108th Street and Olive Boulevard after Lwin reported that her 2-year-old stepchild had been strangled in a diaper. Officers and Peoria Fire-Medical attempted life-saving measures before taking the child to the hospital.

Police said that during the investigation, it was determined that Lwin physically abused the child, causing serious injuries.

Lwin was taken into custody that day on multiple charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and child abuse charges.

Peoria Police announced the boy died a few days later, on October 27. Lwin now faces first-degree murder charges for that death, police said.

Lwin’s mugshot was not released.
