Trent Williams: Getting Christian McCaffrey back is an absolutely massive development for us

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey returned to practice Monday and is hopeful he can play as soon as possible.

But just being on the practice field was a boost for San Francisco, according to left tackle Trent Williams.

“What an amazing feeling to see (No.) 23 there doing thorough warm-up” Williams said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “He kneels a million times before practice, it was great to see him.”

While the 49ers are getting solid performances from Jordan Mason and Isaac Guerendo, there’s a reason why McCaffrey is the AP offensive player of the year. He led the league in 2023 with 2,023 yards from scrimmage, 21 total touchdowns and 1,459 rushing yards.

“You can actually drag him into any crime, it’ll make it better,” Williams said of McCaffrey. “Obviously our offense is designed specifically for him and some of his strengths, so he’ll definitely be a tremendous boost for us.”

After the bye, the 49ers will travel to face the Buccaneers in Week 10; McCaffrey will likely make his debut in 2024.
