Saskatoon man charged with arson after multiple fires in Mayfair

A 31-year-old man has been charged with arson after multiple fires were intentionally set in the Mayfair neighborhood Thursday morning.

Fire crews intervened four fire within an hour, including a detached garage, a deck and two fences.

In a statement Friday morning, the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said just after 10 a.m. Thursday morning, officers received a report of a fence fire in the 100 block of 31st Street West while responding to other fires reported in the area.

Officers found a man matching the suspect’s description a few blocks from where another fire was actively burning.

Police said the 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident and charged with arson for the fence fire. He also had an arrest warrant for being an unlawful fugitive and was found to have violated court-ordered conditions.

Police believe the burning fence is related to a series of fires in the area on Thursday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
