Dog taken to hospital after heater fire in Canton

CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) – A dog was taken to the hospital after an electric heater started a fire on a back porch Sunday.

Canton firefighters were called to a home in the 700 block of Shorb Avenue NW just before 10 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found the homeowners trying to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, according to a statement from the Canton Fire Department.

According to the release, a dog was crated on the back porch when the fire started. Hearing the dog’s howling sound, the neighbor informed the people in the house about the fire.

The neighbor eventually put out the fire with an extinguisher and took the burned dog to the veterinary hospital, the statement said.

In the statement, it was stated that there was some damage to the veranda and exterior of the house.
