Third man accused of murdering Gerard Kennelly in Kerry

A third man has been charged with the murder of Gerard ‘Ger’ Kennelly, who was stabbed in Kerry in May.

Kane Hornyak, 27, was charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder at a special hearing in the Cork City District Court on Sunday.

Mr Kennelly, 36, was stabbed in Knockanure, near Listowel, on May 27.

Two more men charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder appeared in court on Thursday.

Detective Garda Donnacha Coakley said he met the defendant by arrangement at Togher Garda Station after 12pm on Sunday.

The court heard Mr Hornyak, of Doon Street, Listowel, made no response when charged and cautioned.

Det Garda Coakley made an application for the defendant to be arrested.

Mr Hornyak’s lawyer, Pádraig O’Connell, said he would apply for bail for his client in the High Court, but said it would take some time.

Judge Joanne Carroll remanded him in custody to appear at Tralee District Court again on Wednesday, November 6.

He assured Mr O’Connell that the prison governor would be instructed to provide the defendant with all necessary medical care and medication during his time in custody.

Mr O’Connell said his client was entitled to free legal aid. Legal aid was provided.

Two more people have been charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder.

Kieran Brady, 35, of Athey, Co Limerick, and Abigail Lynch, 22, of Woodview Place, Tarbert, Co Kerry, were charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder on Thursday.
