Fraternal Order of Police Raises Concerns Over Shortage of CMPD-Issued External Carrier Vests

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police union called out the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for allegedly silencing officers still waiting for their outer carrier vests.

It’s been three months since the decision to allow officers to go to the location of their outer carrier vests. Dan Redford, president of the Fraternal Order of Police in Charlotte, says the majority of CMPD officers don’t have the new vests — in fact, they don’t even fit.
The president of the Fraternal Order of Police said they are pressuring the police department about the vests. Redford claims Chief Johnny Jennings retaliated by disabling the Brotherhood.

“Now that we have won, we still don’t have these vests. There are very, very few officers who gave this vest as a gift. They say it’s an issue with the manufacturer,” Redford said.

CMPD has not yet responded to WCCB’s questions regarding employee silencing. WCCB requested the number of outer vests issued to officers.
