MABIE — The Mabie Post Office sustained significant structural damage when a vehicle crashed into the facility early Friday morning.

Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Coalton Volunteer Fire Department and Randolph County Emergency Crew responded to a single-vehicle crash on Cassity Road at approximately 7 a.m.

Upon arrival, RCSO deputies discovered a Chevrolet Cobalt SS had crashed into the Mabie Post Office, causing one of the walls to collapse. The male driver of the unidentified vehicle was traveling southbound on Cassity Road. Police said he lost control of the vehicle.

“It looks like there was probably $50,000 to $60,000 in damage to the post office.” Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon told the Inter-Mountain. “One of the walls of the building collapsed, some of it collapsed. It also knocked out the entire corner. “There were bricks scattered both inside and outside the structure.”

No charges were filed against the driver regarding the accident. The driver, who told deputies he was on his way to pick someone up before work, was transported to Davis Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing the crash report. No further information was available at press time.
