BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Health System Authority, Ascension St. took over ownership of St. Vincent Health System.

In June, University of Alabama System Board of Regents approves deal Ascension and UAB Health System Authority’s Ascension St. Assuming ownership of St. Vincent Health System.

Under the agreement, UAB Health System Authority, Birmingham, Blount, Chilton, East and St. Clair, One Nineteen Campus and Trussville Independent Emergency at all Ascension St. Vincent assumed ownership of the maintenance facilities. Department and imaging centers and other clinics that are part of Ascension Medical Group.

UAB St. Vincent patients will continue to have access to the healthcare services and providers they previously had while gaining access to a broader network.

Ray Watts, MD, chair of the UAB Health System Authority Board and UAB president, says the UAB Health System is uniquely positioned to deliver on its commitment to sustaining patient and employee success.

Officials say efforts are ongoing to ensure a smooth transition for patients, caregivers and staff.
