Amazing Grace Restaurant, located on Washington Street in downtown Vicksburg, opened Aug. 4. The restaurant is owned by husband and wife team Anthony and Tabatha Collins.

“I will call my wife adventurous because she likes to take chances and try something new,” Anthony said. “So we took this opportunity to do this work, which it worked well.”

The establishment specializes in black food and offers a different specialty dish every day.

When asked what the restaurant’s favorite dish is, Collins said, “Mine is today’s special, fish with crawfish sauce over rice.”

Collins is also in the daycare business and owns All My Children next door to the restaurant. When the old Gumbo Pot location opened, they saw an opportunity.

Anthony said their food is something everyone can enjoy.

“Everyone. I don’t have anyone specific (in mind),” he said. “We wanted to bring something else to the city.”

Anthony is not from Vicksburg but has lived in the River City for nearly 27 years. He said one reason he and his wife opened the restaurant was because of their children.

“(We are) very, very excited. And we’re essentially trying to do something to (build) that generational wealth. “We have two children and what we do is prepare everything,” he said. “My daughter works here now, she works both here and at the nursery, so it gives her, and then her grandchildren, something to rely on.”

Anthony said hard work pays off.

“We’ve been getting a lot of clients lately. It’s going better than I planned, I can tell you that,” he said. “I haven’t put my budget into getting rich off of it or anything like that, but it’s going well.”

Restaurant, 2001 Washington St. It is located at and is open from 11:00 to 20:00 from Tuesday to Saturday and from 11:00 to 15:00 on Sunday.

“We want people to come check us out, give us an opportunity and see what it’s all about,” Anthony said.
