Woman seriously injured in single-vehicle crash in Haiku

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui police say a 44-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash in Haiku on Halloween morning.

The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. on West Kuiaha Road.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Kia Sorento traveling southbound left the roadway, struck a fence and overturned.

Police said Good Samaritans rescued two people — the driver, a 44-year-old woman, and a 2-year-old girl — from the vehicle.

The woman remained unresponsive and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said the little boy was not injured.

MPD is still investigating whether speed, alcohol and drugs were factors.
