OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – A body was found in Daviess County on Wednesday, Owensboro Police Department officials said.

While police were fielding an unrelated call for service at 4:30 p.m., a man walking his dog approached officers and told them he had found a body on the nearby river bank.

Officers managed to locate a deceased male in woodland next to the river bank.

According to the press release, the body was in the advanced stages of decomposition when it was located.

The body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy.

Authorities say foul play is not suspected at this time, but they are awaiting results from the medical examiner.

The identity of the person found is unknown.

This is an ongoing investigation.
