Fatal shooting in Lecompte, suspect arrested

LECOMPTE, La. (HEART) – A Lecompte man has been arrested following a fatal shooting on Union Street, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

RPSO said the Lecompte Police Department responded to the attack around 1 a.m. on Oct. 31 and discovered that 34-year-old James Barfield of Lecompte had been shot to death.

RPSO said through their investigation they learned that Barfield and another man had been identified. Arcenio Ramon BowieThe 35-year-old from Lecompte became involved in an argument which led to claims that Bowie pulled out a gun and fired at Barfield, with witnesses saying he fled the area.

The RPSO said Bowie surrendered at 3 a.m. He was arrested and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He remains in jail on $1,500,000 bail.
