Amaka Ngbo, ebony stateThe Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of 48-year-old Amuri indigene, Michael Nnaji, in Nkanu Local Government Area. Enugu State.

The incident occurred late on Tuesday night, October 29, in Amaka Ngbo community, where Nnaji lives.

Reacting to this development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said:

“Yes brother. Ohaukwu District Police Officer called me and informed me about this; and our men immediately went to the scene.”

He added that although no arrests have been made yet, police have launched an investigation.

Horrifying details of the attack

According to eyewitness accounts, Nnaji was attacked by two masked gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle at around 9.45pm, The Punch reported.

A family source, speaking anonymously, said: “We were in the shop when two young men approached the site wearing masks.

“One entered through the front door and the other entered through the back door. They went into the living room where Mike was resting and shot him twice.”

The witness, who narrowly escaped from the attackers, described the chaos as follows:

“As soon as I heard the gunshot, I ran outside, but one of them caught me, took my phone and dragged me into the house.

“I managed to free myself and ran into the nearby settlement. Most of the residents fled the scene, leaving Mike behind with the gunmen.”

After shooting Nnaji, the attackers set his body on fire inside the house before fleeing the scene.

The family source complained about the lack of help during the attack and said:

“No one came to help out of fear and his body was severely burned. Many household items were completely destroyed.”

Known for his cheerful nature and interest in local safety, Nnaji had lived in the community for many years.

The family member stated that he did not believe in this brutal act and said:

“He was a calm and cheerful man. I can’t understand why someone would do such a thing to him.”

DSP Ukandu assured the community that the police would conduct a thorough investigation into the crime, promising to catch and prosecute those responsible.

“We are determined to restore peace and security in society,” he said.
