Packers grapple with injuries and several starters miss practice

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WSAW) – Seven Packers starters, including Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs, missed Wednesday’s practice due to injury. Not an ideal start to a week that culminates in a major league clash against the Detroit Lions.

With Love out, substitute Malik Willis stepped in as first-team representatives once again. He remains calm and confident as per the norm.

“Whatever they want to keep busy, they take it one day at a time,” says Willis. “Just make sure I lock in and do the best I can. Make sure I go home and study and see what they see. They think about what the expectation of the game should be and only understand the outcome they want.

Jacobs is dealing with an ankle injury but remains optimistic that he still has many weeks left in rehab.

“Towards the end of the season, your guys need to take a day or two to get their bodies right so they can play at their highest level on game day,” Jacobs says. “So I’m just managing my body, man. “I’ll be fine come game time.”

The O-line is the most worn unit. There were three starters today: Josh Myers, Rasheed Walker and Elgton Jenkins. The rest of the O-line does their best to handle the punches.

“It’s like, ‘well, this is going to be one of those days where guys are going to play different positions, get more reps than usual,'” Packers guard Sean Rhyan says. “But this is an education. “It’s not like this game will be like that.”

There was no Jaire Alexander or Evan Williams on defense. But Matt LaFleur has a lot of confidence in the depth of this unit, regardless of who is available.

“I think we want to rotate all those guys,” LaFleur says. “And I think that’s a position where we have decent depth, corner and safety.”

Knowing that this is a game for division leadership, there is more incentive to get healthy and get back on the field.

The Lions have quite a few injuries, including quarterback Jared Goff, who missed practice with an ankle injury.
