Officer broke windshield to save woman from burning car

Police body camera footage recorded by a Michigan police officer showed the rescue of a 22-year-old woman trapped inside a burning car.

Mt. Officers from the Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to a single-car rollover accident at the intersection of North Mission Road just before 10pm local time on Sunday, October 27th. police said in a press release..

“Upon arrival, officers observed the side of a vehicle with flames coming out of the rear,” according to the department.

At that point, an officer began breaking the windshield to catch the victim, according to body camera footage. The officer instructed the woman to be careful when breaking the window and to kick the windshield as smoke and flames emerged from the vehicle.

Eventually, as seen in the video, the woman’s leg appeared through the broken glass and officers were able to drag her to safety.

“Seconds later, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames,” police added.

The 22-year-old woman was later taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said. There was no one else in the vehicle with him.
