Ange Postecoglou announced that Wilson Odobert, whom Tottenham transferred this summer, experienced a “serious” setback in his recovery process after his injury.

The £25m former Burnley striker returned as a substitute against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League last Thursday after more than a month out with a hamstring problem.

However, he was left out of the squad for Sunday’s hugely disappointing 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace and Postecoglou confirmed the talented 19-year-old faces another spell on the sidelines.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie with Manchester City, Postecoglou had previously revealed captain Son Heung-min’s absence for that game and said: “The only one missing that is a bit disappointing is Wilson, who has had a setback throughout the week and “It looks like it’s a serious situation, so we’re waiting for more information. It’s not exactly the same (injury) but it’s the same area.”

Odobert made five appearances Tottenham Since leaving the Clarets in the summer, he has made three starts and came off the bench twice.

He came on in the 88th minute against AZ Alkmaar last Thursday, his first appearance since the Carabao Cup win at Coventry on September 18.

Odobert and Son’s absence opens the door for Moore

The absence of Odobert and Son means young winger Mikey Moore could get his chance to shine against City in the Carabao Cup.
