Retired Greenville County K9 Officer passed away after brief illness, deputies say

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says a retired K9 officer has passed away after a very brief illness.

According to authorities, K9 Officer Josie was a 10-year-old Mantrailing Bloodhound.

In August 2014, Arkansas DVM Dr. He was donated to the sheriff’s office by Teresa Medlock and immediately began training in the art of scent discrimination.

K9 Officer Josie has found both criminals and missing persons throughout her years in law enforcement.

His most notable case was finding a missing three-year-old boy in the woods near the Reedy River in Simpsonville on April 17, 2019. For this he received a life-saving award from the National Police Bloodhound Association.

Retired Sgt. Jim Leathers was his trainer/manager and took care of him both in service and in retirement.
