Teenager killed in fiery crash in which his 15-year-old sister was seriously injured was ‘a kind and cheerful soul’

The 16-year-old girl who died in a fiery crash that seriously injured her younger sister is remembered as “a kind and cheerful soul who was fondly remembered by all who knew her.”

Springville High School student Andrea Leigh Conriquez died in a crash in Blount County on Sunday. His sister, 15-year-old Emileigh Conriquez, was taken to an undisclosed hospital.

“His passing leaves an unimaginable void in the lives of his family and friends,” his uncle Miguel Conriquez wrote in one of two GoFundMe accounts set up to help the family.

“Emileigh, who is bravely fighting to recover, needs our support as she navigates the difficult road to recovery ahead.”

The wreck occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Alabama 132.About a mile west of Altoona.

Alabama State Police Cpl. Andrea was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, went off the road, hit an embankment, overturned and caught fire, Reginal King said.

Andrea was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emileigh was thrown and was seriously injured.

“With heavy hearts, we share the tragic loss of Andrea Conriquez, a vibrant 16-year-old whose life was lost too soon in a devastating car accident,” according to one of the fundraising sites. “Andrea’s younger sister Emileigh, who is only 15, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries and now faces a long recovery journey that includes multiple surgeries and extensive medical care.”

“Our goal is to raise $20,000 to cover Andrea’s memorial expenses and assist with Emileigh’s medical treatments,” according to the second GoFundMe. “Every donation, no matter the size, provides comfort and relief to the family during this unimaginable time.”
