Government Extends Health Insurance to 70+ People Under Ayushman Bharat Program

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to announce the expansion of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) on October 29, according to an official media source. This program will provide health insurance to all residents age 70 and older, regardless of age. their financial situation.

PM Modi will also introduce the U-WIN portal, which has been created to provide electronic registration of routine vaccinations and is currently in pilot mode.

New Beneficiaries Under the AB-PMJAY Program

According to a source, “The Prime Minister is expected to launch an expanded version of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme focusing on citizens aged 70 years and above. This upgrade will help around six crore people in 4.5 crore households.”

Anyone aged 70 and above, regardless of income level, be it poor, middle class, upper middle class or wealthy, will be eligible for the Ayushman card. Once the expanded scheme becomes active, they will be able to get free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh at any hospital under the AB PMJAY network.

How to Apply for AB-PMJAY?

According to sources, people aged 70 years and above will be eligible for this program based on their Aadhaar information.

Officials said that this is an app-based programme, so eligible people have to register through PMJAY website or Ayushman app.

“Those who already have an Ayushman card will have to re-apply for a new card and complete the eKYC process again,” a source added.

What is U-Win Platform?

Under the Universal Immunization Programme, the U-Win platform was created to keep a permanent digital record of vaccinations for both pregnant women and children from birth to 17 years of age.

This platform is seen as a clone of the Co-WIN application, which has proven successful in keeping digital records of the COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic. The application was popularly known as the COVID-19 vaccine management system.
