Police: Parolee hit woman in RGH car park before stealing her car, crash following chase

ROCHESTER, NY — A robbery at Rochester General Hospital led to a police chase ending in a crash Monday morning — and the arrested suspect was released on parole just 10 days earlier for other carjacking-related crimes.

Police say a woman was in her Kia in the parking lot outside Rochester General Hospital when a man demanded she get out of his car and hit and choked her for several minutes until she got out and ran away.

Officers found the suspect in the car near Lake Avenue and Britton Street, but police said the driver did not stop when officers tried to pull him over. A brief chase ensued, and officers said the suspect drove into New York State troopers trying to take down spike strips on Lake Avenue.

Eventually the car crashed into River View Heights. Officers said that’s when the suspect got out of the car and began running away, and an RPD K9 officer found him in the backyard of a home.

RPD says the suspect is 34-year-old Isaiah Weathers and is charged with the following crimes:

  • Second degree robbery
  • second degree assault
  • Third degree grand larceny
  • First degree reckless endangerment
  • Criminal obstruction of breathing

Weathers could face more charges as officers continue to investigate, and he was also out on parole from 2013 for first-degree robbery and other carjacking-related crimes.
